Grupo Etnografico Areosa Viana Castelo

The Ethnographic Group of Areosa (GEA), Viana do Castelo, Portugal, founded in 1966, is a cultural association that invites us to take a journey into the past, artistic work and popular traditions of the Viana region.

The international journey of the Areosa Ethnographic Group is already long. It started in 1979 in France, and never stopped. Mainland Spain and Belgium were the most frequent destinations, but GEA has also been, more than once, representing Portugal in France, Luxembourg, Poland, Germany, mainland Italy, Turkey and Hungary. In addition to these countries, the Group has participated in international festivals on several islands such as the Azores, Madeira, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife and Sicily. Brazil, Venezuela and Lithuania are part of the list of countries where the EAEM has only performed once. These delegations representing traditional culture, beyond dances, costumes and singing, have brought to know other knowledge, such as crafts and gastronomy.
